About the project
RIVA takes old iPhones in Hong Kong and pays for them in vouchers: answer a few questions about the phone, they collect it, test it, and the voucher follows. The site is where that starts, in English and Traditional Chinese.
I joined once the project was already underway and stayed on for the maintenance — reworking the enquiry flow and building the animation that carries it. Gatsby underneath, with Material-UI, styled-components and Tailwind all inherited in the same codebase, forms on Formik and Yup, i18next handling the two languages.
It was also where I learned TypeScript: not from a tutorial, but from a codebase already written in it, where every misunderstanding surfaced as a compiler error in somebody else's file. Slower going at first. I have not chosen to write plain JavaScript since.
