About the project

Popdaily is one of Taiwan's larger women's community platforms. Its React Native app had grown over four years and some seven thousand commits, built by an in-house team — and then that team resigned, all of it, with no handover. I came in for about six weeks to keep things moving.

The app was the immediate problem: layout work, retiring a feature that had to go, and getting releases out of the door again. Underneath it sat GraphQL, Redux Toolkit, CodePush for over-the-air updates, Firebase, Sentry and three separate analytics stacks — and nobody left to ask how any of it fitted together. The delivery pipeline had walked out with the team too, so I rebuilt the CI/CD until the app could be built and shipped again. The website, on the same React and TypeScript stack, needed performance work rather than features.

For those six weeks both the app and the site kept shipping updates. With nobody left who knew either of them, that was the whole job — and reading four years of someone else's decisions, quickly, is a different skill from writing your own.
